Perspective Of An Author

Some of Nathan Beehl's favourite books by other Ferrari specialist writers

I'm often asked for

book recommendations. Which Ferrari books are the best, etc? That, of course, is an impossible question to answer because it depends on what aspect of Ferrari the questioner is interested in. So I am going to try and cover as much ground as possible with this answer. Therefore, here are books that I consider (in other words – my opinion) to be the best of their type, with a brief synopsis for each book;

“ENZO FERRARI; Power, Politics, and the Making of an Automotive Empire” by Luca Dal Monte. This is the ultimate book about Enzo Ferrari, the man. More than 900 pages of extremely well researched history .

“Ferrari In Camera” by Geoff Goddard and Doug Nye. The ultimate Ferrari photo book. Fabulous photos from the 50s, 60s, and 70s by legendary photographer Geoff Goddard with informative captions. Nowadays an expensive collector’s classic, but well worth the money.

“Ferrari 1000GP; Il Libro Ufficiale; The Official Book” – published by Ferrari. A beautiful two volume book in a slipcase. This is basically a photographic record of every Ferrari race in the FIA F1 World Championship.

"All The Cars; Ferrari" by Leonardo Acerbi. A lovely, compact and precise overview of nearly all the Ferraris since the 1940 AAC 815. Thie latest 5th edition was published in 2019. Look for a new edition in the next couple of years.

"Ferrari Automobili 1946-1953" by Millanta, Orsini & Zagari. Those three names alone should be enough to tell you that this is a great book. Although  the text is Italian there are enough photos to make this essential for anyone interested in the early years of Ferrari.

"Ferrari; Men from Maranello" by Anthony Pritchard. A biographiocal A-Z of all the significant drivers, engineers and team managers. An excellent reference on Ferrari people.

"Ferrari; 25 Years of Calendar Images!" by Gunther Raupp. A gotgeous coffee-table book by the photographer of the official Ferrari calendars.

"Ferrari Under the Skin" by  Andrew Nahum. Written by the curator of the Design Museum Ferrari exhibition. It's a good introduction to Ferrari covering different aspects of the Ferrari story, including modern design and production.

And, of course, there are many very good books on specific tipos; 250 GTO, 312 P, 156/F1, Dino etc etc.
